The old adage is that April showers bring May flowers. But this April also featured the groundbreaking of a new section of the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail, which will run east to River Street in Comstock Township from Mayors’ Riverfront Park in Kalamazoo.

Downtown Kalamazoo is the hub for three segments of the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail, which beckons bikers for miles around. But there are also a lot of folks who bike into downtown for a variety of reasons: To get to work, take classes, stop in for dinner and a movie. There are plenty of places to park and lock your bike, and now there?s a new option for regular commuters who come in on two wheels.
Oshtemo Township Park

For 24 years, the 66 acre park behind the Oshtemo Township offices has been a work in progress. Since groundbreaking last fall, workers have been rushing to spruce up the space in time for a dedication ceremony scheduled for 2pm on Saturday, May 19.

Kalamazoo is rife with lakes and lakes have fish. Michigan is particularly blessed with sport fish and just outside the city limits is Wolf Lake State Fish Hatchery where they raise fish from eggs in the wild and release them back in lakes, rivers and streams to entice the anglers among us.

As Kalamazoo city and county officials continue to explore possible changes to the Kalamazoo Metro Transit system, several milestones have been marked. Most recently, the Kalamazoo County Transportation Authority hired Sean McBride as its first-ever executive director. We sat down with McBride to talk about the KCTA?s progress and what brought him back to West Michigan.
