Zapata Memorial DedicationZapata Memorial Dedication

Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer Eric Zapata served the community for ten years before he was shot and killed in 2011 while assisting a fellow officer under fire. He was the first officer lost in the line of duty in the City of Kalamazoo. He will not be forgotten by the community. In June, a memorial in his honor was dedicated on the Kalamazoo Mall.

Animals end up at Kalamazoo County Animal Services and Enforcement for many reasons, and the current building doesn’t house them according to Animal Welfare Act guidelines. An exciting new development this year is a plan for the shelter to move into a building that would be jointly operated with the Kalamazoo Humane Society.
