When you see a Kalamazoo Dept. of Public Safety officer moving fast through downtown Kalamazoo, you might be surprised what he is riding: a Segway.

When business in the construction industry went bust four years ago, area townships still had building personnel costs to carry. Rather than reduce staff and cut services, three townships decided to create KABA, the Kalamazoo Area Building Authority.
Digging History

A new building will soon be going up on the corner of West Michigan Avenue and Rose Street in downtown Kalamazoo. And for that building to go up workers will be digging down, moving electrical vaults and updating water mains. And they’ll also be replacing sewer pipes that have been in use since 1882.
